Wayne Ho, the president and CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council, discussed where the safety of Asian Americans stands today in New York City.

He talked about the murder of Michelle Go, who was pushed into the path of an oncoming subway train in Times Square. Her death garnered widespread attention across the country last year, but was not classified as a hate crime.

Ho discussed what needs to be done when it comes to anti-Asian hate, especially as it relates policing.

He spoke about what CPC is doing to help Asian small businesses recover from the pandemic. The organization serves over 200,000 through more than 50 programs.

Ho also talked about what he hopes the city’s redistricting process means for the AAPI community and representation. It created a new majority Asian American district in Brooklyn.

This is the first Lunar New Year that many organizations can celebrate in person since the pandemic. Ho explained what this means for the AAPI community.
